Mapping the Seashore

Program Overview
June 15th - June 18th
Grades K - 1
11am - 2:30pm

Mapping the Seashore is a four-day K–1 summer program that blends literacy and social studies as students explore how maps represent real places using the familiar and exciting theme of the beach.
In this one hour per day experience, children build vocabulary, strengthen listening and speaking skills, and learn foundational map concepts such as symbols, location, and purpose through stories, discussions, drawing, and guided map making. As students create and label their own beach maps, they practice organizing ideas visually and explaining their thinking using complete sentences.
The program concludes with student presentations where children proudly share their beach maps, building confidence while demonstrating their understanding of how maps help us understand the world around us.
